Military Reservists who return to civilian work after completing a period of active duty during the coronavirus pandemic will be eligible for the government’s support schemes.
The Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, announced that Reservists will be able to be furloughed by their employer under the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS), despite the deadline for employees being furloughed for the first time having passed on Wednesday 10 June. However, Reservists must work for an employer who has previously furloughed employees to be eligible.
He also announced that self-employed Reservists who would have been ineligible for the Self Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) as a result of their service in 2018-19, will be able to make a claim for both the first and second SEISS grants.
