Business & Tax Services

I joined Ellacotts as a Partner in the Business and Tax Services (BaTS) team in November 2010. My role is to assist clients in solving their problems.  This usually involves remuneration planning – how should money be taken from a business, VAT issues, and the impact of various taxes such as Corporation Tax, Income Tax, National Insurance, Capital Gains Tax, and Stamp Duty.

I have been in Banbury since 1987 and, before joining Ellacotts, I was a Partner in another local firm of Chartered Accountants. Before coming to Banbury I had qualified with a Big Four firm and, after that, I gained further experience in the local area.

I am a FCA of the ICAEW (Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales).

For many years I have been passionate about Cloud Accounting having been an early adopter of the technology. Now with businesses facing ever-growing demands, Cloud Solutions are well placed to meet those needs with access to up-to-date data being available anywhere with an internet connection. At Ellacotts we are now Xero Platinum Partners, a Cloud Solution at the forefront of meeting business needs.

Some of the most rewarding work is assisting a business to grow and develop. A client was initially a small start-up and I provided outsourced bookkeeping, VAT, and monthly management accounts. Over the years, the business grew and then parts were disposed of and finally the business was restructured through a management buy-out. The business is continuing successfully and I am still working with them.

It is great to be able to help clients every day and my fellow specialist Partners and colleagues assist with providing support so a complete holistic service is provided. Most days I do not know in advance what problems will need solving but it is great at the end of each day to consider what has been achieved in resolving a client’s issues.

I have been married since 1992 to Helena and away from the office I like to play cricket for a local village team but recently more time seems to be spent umpiring rather than playing!
