I specialise in tax planning for farms, landowners and agricultural business. My work involves advising clients in all aspects of tax and managing clients’ routine compliance work. In particular, I specialise in minimising tax on land sales, Entrepreneurs’ Relief, Inheritance Tax, succession planning, capital allowances and trusts. I work closely with other professionals such as land agents, solicitors and banks to develop solutions, which work both practically for clients and help minimise their tax position. I achieve great satisfaction in my job when the planning I have done saves a client some tax.
I graduated from Nottingham University in 2005 and in 2006 joined a top five accountancy firm in their specialist agricultural team as a Tax Trainee. I passed the ATT (Association of Taxation Technicians) exams in November 2008 with a distinction in personal tax and the CTA (Chartered Institute of Taxation) exams in November 2009. I also became STEP qualified in November 2014 and have a Diploma in Trusts & Estates achieving distinctions in both the accountancy paper and Administration of Estate paper. I have always achieved first time passes in all my exams. I joined Ellacotts in January 2015 as a Manager, was promoted to Director in June 2016, followed by a promotion to Partner in June 2019. I enjoy the variety of work my job entails and the fact that what I do can make a difference to a farming business and family. This want to help the farming community continues into my spare time and I very much enjoy my role as Secretary for the Northamptonshire R.A.B.I (Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution) Committee.
Originally from rural Somerset, I enjoy the country life and use to be a keen horse rider, although, these days, most of my free time is spent on DIY renovating my house with my new husband who I dragged to Russia on our honeymoon to see brown bears!
