Robert Black

Assistant Manager

Agriculture & Property

I joined the Ellacotts Agriculture and Property department in December 2018 as an Assistant Manager, having previously worked for another accountancy firm.

I graduated from The Royal Agricultural College in 2011 after obtaining a BSc (Hons) degree in Rural Land Management. I then worked for a firm of chartered surveyors before changing careers to accountancy. I qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA) in October 2016 and as a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) in July 2018.

I look after a wide range of farming and landowning clients and understand that many agricultural businesses have wider needs when it comes to the associated families. I am involved with all aspects of accounts and tax, from compliance to Inheritance Tax planning. I have many years of experience dealing with the complex requirements needed from farm and agricultural business accounts, and the requirements of the tax planning opportunities available.

I have always enjoyed helping clients achieve the best performance from their businesses. In particular, jobs such as producing detailed harvest accounts to enable greater management and understanding of the farming business, or assisting in producing cash budgets to obtain financing.

Coming from a rural background I understand the importance of the succession of agricultural businesses to the future generations. That is why I take great pleasure in assisting in the tax planning of the families involved.

Away from the office, I can often be found outside in the country. I have a passion for shooting and have two gundogs which I have trained. During the ski season you will find me in the mountains and in the evenings you will find me watching the rugby. I have a young family which I hope to share the same passions with in the future.
