Agriculture & Property

For over 25 years, I have specialised in producing gross margin accounts in a format that shows the profitable enterprises of our agricultural clients’ businesses. These are especially useful to our arable clients as the figures are produced on a harvest basis making comparisons with similar businesses and earlier harvests possible.  With the recent reductions in farming profits, I am increasingly seeing my clients finding additional sources of income from various diversification projects. It is very rewarding to see the profits achievable from many of our entrepreneurial farmers who I have known for many years.  Many of these activities are now showing significant contributions to the annual profits of our agricultural clients. Recently I have become more involved in looking for intuitive solutions for reducing our client’s tax liabilities. I now also help present annually the benchmarking results of our farmers to an audience of approximately 50 farmers each year.

I started work in the accountancy profession over 40 years ago in a top five accountancy firm and joined their specialist agricultural sector. I was one of the early members of the Institute of Accounting Staff that has now become the Institute of Accounting Technicians. I became a fellow of this accounting body in 2014.  I joined Ellacotts as a Manager in the Agriculture and Property department in October 2012 when we opened a new office at one of our clients’ business offices in Strixton. Due to our continued expansion, we relocated to Kettering in 2016 and this office continues to grow.

I have always lived in Northamptonshire and enjoy the village life.  Much to the annoyance of my wife, I am an avid television watcher of many sports and throughout the year play pool for a village team and golf at Cold Ashby regardless of the weather conditions.  We have even played in the snow only stopping when the golf ball could not be found due to the depth of the snow!
